Homegrown Hip Hop with Soul

Originally from Baltimore, PauLBWon aka PHomeGrown’s upbringing was a mosaic of experiences, shaped by the diverse neighborhoods of the East Side, West Side, and the surrounding County. His formative years were characterized by constant motion. He grew up moving from one place to another. From a young age, he was immersed in the realities of work, working jobs he hated, while hustling to simply make ends meet. For the majority of his life, the pursuit of art and music felt like a luxury, an illusion that had to take a back seat to the demands of reality. In spite of realities demands, the desire to create never left him.

When he was young, PHomeGrown discovered the power of writing, not as a ccareer move, but as a coping mechanism. It became his peace, a means of processing grief, navigating life, and quieting the internal turmoil. This same drive led him to the realm of beat-making. Originally, it served as a means to complement his own writing, but it quickly turned into its own thing. Through the exploration of outboard analog gear and Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs), he cultivated a distinctive sound that was deeply rooted in both technical prowess and emotional resonance.

The road was hard, there were periods in PHomeGrown’s life where music was reduced to the sidelines, sacrificed for the sake of survival. Years were lost to the struggle. However, the call never faded; it patiently waited.

Today, PHomeGrown is grounded, anchored by the family he has built and the community of Gryskll that has embraced him. For the first time, he has clarity. Music and writing were never just hobbies; they were lifelines that sustained him through the hard times. Today, they serve as instruments for truth-telling, for introspection, and for purposeful creation.

Life is short and PHomeGrown carries a sense of urgency in his creative work. Each day is a reminder, and every song he makes, is a step closer to articulating the ultimate message. Time is precious, and his artistic voice is a testament to resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of creative expression.
